NATO-Russia Risk Assessment Workshop

On December 22, 2021, Dr. Alexey Gromyko, Director of the Institute of Europe (Russian Academy of Sciences), took part in the NATO-Russia Risk Assessment Workshop, organized by British American Security Information Council (BASIC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

He spoke in Session 1 “General and specific perspectives on nuclear and conventional risks and threats in Europe” on how Russia assesses its relationship with Belarus and how Russia perceives the risks from the recent developments.

Welcome remarks were made by Marion Messmer, BASIC co-Director. The other speaker was Dr. Andrey Kortunov, General Director of RIAC, who shared his views on “How has the official risk assessment affected policies?” Among contributors from Russia were Dmitry Stefanovich, Professor Anastasia Malygina and others. Dr. Gry Thomasen, BASIC Senior Policy Fellow, Programme Manager Risk Reduction and Nuclear Disarmament, moderated the Seminar.
